How in the earth can we pursue justice
if injustices grow in proportion to our greed?

How in the earth can we promote growth for the sake of growth
and not become the very cancer we fear?

How in the earth will ecosystems survive
if we worship economy as an end to democracy?

How in the earth can we let children perceive
we cared only enough for ourselves and no other?

How in the earth can we call freedom patriotism
then enslave others for the economic benefit of the few?

How in the earth can we continue to believe
that some kind of technological fix will always pull us through?

How in the earth can this trial by vanity
always be in the reflection of our own god?

How in the earth can we live on the edge and not even know where we are?
